Changes in desulfurizing practices have resulted in up to 50% reduction in reagent costs concurrent with the requirement to produce sulfur content below 0.008%. Practice improvements include type of reagent, higher hot metal temperature throughlower temperature losses, modified injection rates, improved standards and greater conformance with standards by operators.
