Forecast International believes the U.S. Department of Defense will invest some USD7.5 billion on the Global Information Grid architecture over the next ten years. Expect the U.S. Department of Defense to begin fielding a basic Global Information Grid capability by 2010. The Global Information Grid (GIG) is a United States Department of Defense (DoD) effort to create an Internet-like network that enables weapons, other systems, and people to share information, allowing warfighters to identify threats and respond to those threats with lethality. The GIG will form the basis of U.S. network-centric warfare.
