Impact of Water Management Practices on Growth and Yield of Rice Grown Under System of Rice Intensification

A field experiment was conducted during three consecutive rabi seasons of 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 to find out the impact of water management practices on growth and yield of rice grown under system of rice intensification, using eight different treatments. The results of the experiment revealed that I4 treatment gave the highest yield (71.48 q ha~(-1)) where 0-2 cm water maintained up to 15 days before harvest. In case of water productivity highest (14.01 mm q~(-1)) response obtained from the Itreatment. The highest (396.04) number of panicle per square meter in the lA treatment, highest (116.12) grain per panicle in the treatment I, and highest 1000-grains weight (17.2 g) in the treatment I were found. In this system of rice cultivation 11.58-38.25% of valuable irrigation water can be saved.
