A thirty year survey (1971--2001) in the major potato growing belt of West Bengal revealed that occurrence of late blight is regular but incidence and severity varied from 2 to 75 percent and 1.5--60 percent depending upon the weather condition of year and variety grown. The disease appears generally between week 1 to 3 of January. Out of thirty years, the incidence and severity both were highest during the year 1994-95 (75 percent and 60 percent) and minimum in the year 1989-90 (2 percent and 1.5 percent).
