摘要

It is no secret that World War II veterans are dying off in huge numbers. According to the World War II Museum in New Orleans, veterans of all branches of the military are dying at the rate of approximately 900 per day. This number is down slightly from a peak of nearly 1,200 per day a few years ago, largely due to the fact that the population of total World War II veterans is becoming smaller each year. The museum estimates that there were sixteen million veterans at the end of the war and of that number less than two million are alive today. Citing these numbers, the museum is stepping up its efforts to document the veteran experience by collecting accounts of the war from surviving veterans and their spouses and children.
