Congenital flexural deformities are frequently recognised in newborn foals and most commonly affect the carpus or the metacarpophalangeal joint. Many cases respond spontaneously, but more severely affected cases require medical and/or surgical treatment. This report describes a method for construction of splints for the treatment of flexural deformities using a fibreglass splinting system originally designed for use in small animals. This method of splinting may be appropriate for the metacarpo/tarsophalangeal joint or the carpus in foals.
