BOSTON—The seed industry is as busy as ever, with fruit and vegetable crops facing old and new threats. Underpinning all product development, though, is the fight to eradicate pest and diseases, and improve flavour.Kate Smart, technical manager at Sakata UK, says: "We are doing a lot of development on speciality tomatoes, with a huge emphasis on flavour, joining up breeding efforts in north and southern Europe, and seeing UK-grown Sakata varieties back in UK retailers.
