Being a major import hub for counter-seasonal fruit, the Netherlands is a great place to gauge the feeling as the citrus deal comes into play. Johan Kater, who heads up citrus imports at Barendrecht-based Hillfresh, highlights some of the key productsand issues the group will be handling in 2016."For grapefruit, we start with South African product, then we import from Mexico from August, before we turn back to Northern Hemisphere supply from Israel and Turkey at the beginning of October," he tells euro-fruit. "We are sourcing high-quality grapefruit that is distributed to supermarket chains in central Europe. The taste of the produce is crucial to Hillfresh, and we are always on the lookout for more tasteful fruit, and therefore new markets that might supply fruit of a high eating quality."
