The Tabasco banana growers association is looking to take advantage of the recently opened European market this year following an overhaul of quality standards and a growth in production. THIS year is looking particularly positive for the Tabasco banana growers association, Grupo San Carlos, following the opening up of the European market under the new EU banana import regime. "The domestic market in Mexico is very strong but with increasing volumes new markets must be developed," the group's marketing director Karla Celorio tells Trade Latin America. "This is a big opportunity for us to consolidate our San Carlos brand in Europe, and access niche markets where giants including Chiquita and Dole are not dominant," she adds.
