When the global fresh produce industry convenes in Orlando for the PMA Fresh Summit on 24-27 October, food safety is sure to be one of the subjects uppermost on delegates' minds. The US has been rocked by a series of high-profile outbreaks of foodborne illnesses this year that have posed a major threat to the nation's public health and severely damaged the reputation of the fresh produce industry -not to mention its sales - and highlighted the inadequacies of the current system for identifying food contamination sources.
