Fewer Southern Hemisphere apples on the European market spells good news for French producers, but a permanent solution to the annual glut remains to be found. Last year, French apple producers were pulling their hair out in frustration as they watched early-season prices, which should by all rights have been very reasonable, stay disappointingly low due to an overhang of fruit from the Southern Hemisphere. All the more galling for growers was that this was becoming a frequent problem and yet the European Union appeared to be doing nothing about it.
