Freight-forwarding specialist Fermac Cargo is optimistic about the bright future that beckons for Brazil's fruit exports over the next few years. Laura Gould reports. IN its 24-year history as a specialist in perishable air cargo, Sao Paulo-based firmFermac Cargo has never been so positive about the future of Brazil's fresh produce exports as it is now, according to the company's sales and operations director Luis Dal Colleto. Brazil is experiencing a huge increase in its exports and fresh produce is playing a substantial part in this boon. "Figures from the past six years show a significant increase in Brazil's agribusiness, and the WTO's latest report shows that Brazil will boost exports by 25 per cent this year," Mr Dal Colleto explains. In 2005, he claims, Fermac Cargo held a 60 per cent market share in the total volume of perishable goods exported from Brazil, handling 7,000 tonnes of cargo, 90 per cent of which was perishable, 70 per cent of those volumes consisting of fruit. Major productshandled include papayas, mangoes, figs and grapes.
