SAT Royal redoubles efforts as Spanish crisis deepens: As Spain's stonef ruit producers brace themselves for yet another tough season, the Andalusian company is redoubling efforts to seal its reputation as a first-class supplier
BELEAGUERED Spanish stonefruit suppliers pinning their hopes on a recovery this year will have been disappointed by the difficult start to the 2006 campaign. While northern Europe finds itself in the grip of an unusually cold spring and early summer, temperatures on the Spanish mainland have soared, causing considerable overlaps in production in the Seville, Murcia and Valencia regions. "The production overlaps, coupled with the bad weather we've seen in our major export markets, have kept prices very low so far."
