corinth—The number of exporters may have dwindled since the financial crash, but more Greeks are turning to grape cultivation, leading to rising volumes for those surviving companies.The past few years of crisis have left an indelible mark on Europe. In most fruit categories, chronic oversup-ply has found an unfortunate partner in dwindling consumer buying power, with predictable consequences for prices. "Add local high costs of borrowing," says George Frangistas of Greek exporter Gefra, "if borrowing is even possible in a country like Greece, and severe operating difficulties become the norm."
