Chilean grower-exporter Gesex knows that good results can be achieved with stonefruit if the emphasis is placed on value rather than volume. Linda Bloomfleld reports. CHI LEAN stonefruit specialist Gesex S.A. is now the Southern Hemisphere's largest supplier of stonefruit to UK retailer Tesco, providing 80 per cent of the supermarket chain's Finest added value line. In addition to being the first company in Chile to achieve BRC accreditation for its packhouse facilities, Gesex remains to date the only firm to have achieved Tesco's Nature's Choice accreditation. The company's eight shareholder-growers have all achieved EurepGAP certification and some of them are now working to the Field to Fork programme for UK retailer Marks & Spencer.
