The California cherry industry is hoping to avoid a repeat of its 2005 season, while Washington shippers are holding out for an action replay. THE 2005 California cherry season is one that most of the Golden State's growers would prefer to forget. Due to ill-timed storms that struck the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys from late-April until mid-May, the 2005 season's volume was reduced by 42 per cent to just over 4.4m cartons - the smallest California cherry crop in five years.
