It may have undergone a major upheaval in recent months, but Michel Loeb, now president of Chiquita Europe and Middle East, remains confident for the future of the produce group ML: Last year was only the second of the new EU banana regime, during which the market showed more stability than in 2006. However, since 2005, the market dynamics and the competitive landscape.have been rapidly changing and we can still see today some movement andlack of'balanceis the market, particularly as a consequence ofHurricane Dean. At Chiquita wejhave made considerable progress compared with the previous year by continuing our close collaboration with the major retailers across Europe. This has led to the development of important joint growth programmes such as theNogal Nature Reserve in Costa Rica, which has been developed in cooperation with the Swiss retailer Migros and the German Development Agency GTZ.
