In what has been a bumper year for South African citrus exporters, volumes broke the 90m-carton barrier for the first time. For some years now industry leaders have been predicting that by 2010 South Africa would break through the 100m 15kg cartons mark, but when the industry became bogged down around the 70m carton mark throughout the past three years this target seemed to be along way off. However, this season export volume rose by over I0m cartons compared with the previous year, and 12m more thanprevious records in 2005.
