A recent groundbreaking protocol agreement is set to provide Belgian pear exporters with direct access to China later this year. Belgian pear exporters are preparing to send their fruit direct to five mainland ports in China this coming October aftersuccessfully establishing an historic import protocol agreement with the authorities in Beijing. After just three and a half years -record timing in comparison with other similar negotiations - Belgium is now poised to become the first supplier worldwideto export pears direct to China. Pears are also the first category of Belgian fresh produce to be granted direct access to the country.
