It was shown that desalination of soils and groundwater is slow within the existing system of rice growing in the Kuban River delta. During 20 years of management of the rice growing system, the content of water-soluble salts in the 0- to 100-cm soil layer decreased from 0.7-1.6 to 0.3-0.5%, and the salt content in groundwater decreased from 22-31 to 4-15 g/l. Dependences of the desalination rate of soils and groundwater on the maintenance regime of rice growing systems (duration of pumping and the water level in the drainage system, types and altitude of paddies, and the degree of drainage) have been determined.
