saint helier—With the London 2012 Olympics due to begin atthe end of July, hot on the heels of last month's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the European Football Championship,the UK's largest food tetailer is hopeful the summer's high-profile eventswill help it boost sales and build demand for popular product lines like Jersey Royal potatoes. Towards the end of May, eurofruit accompanied three members of UK-based food retailer Tesco's vegetable sourcing team on a commercial visit to the island ofJersey, a British crown dependency off the coast of northern France. There, we spoke to senior buyer Andy Blackett, potatoes and brassicas technical manager Tim Pratt and the group's technical category leader for vegetables and salads David Collins about the various challenges associated with importing more than 30 per cent of the renowned Jersey Royal potato crop into the UK, as well as other recent market developments at the world's third-largest grocer.
