THE European Centre of fruit and vegetables celebrated its 25th birthday last year. It was inaugurated at the beginning of 1981 and presently covers an enormous area of over 13ha. The centre is strategically located just outside the city centre of Brussels, close to the main road networks, in the heart of Europe. Although the centre has been enlarged since its creation, the number of companies has remained relatively constant, due to various mergers. Of the companies that were present when it was founded, approximately 80 per cent still reside there today, which is a mark of the stability and success of the entire operation.
