ALTHOUGH their price tags may be somewhat higher than those of other countries' produce, French fruits and vegetables will always have a role to play in the UK market, says Peter Davis of Lincolnshire-based UK importer Davis (Louth). "For fast food restaurants, discount retailers and wholesale outlets, price is the watchword and quality is not always so paramount," he says. "However, plenty of UK retailers or foodservice companies demand a very high quality product and are not so price-oriented, andthis is where French exporters fit in."
