Sustainable water diversion project in northern Peru aims to create 43,500ha of fertile agricultural land for the production of various crops, including fruits and vegetables. With the agricultural industry looking to secure a long-term supply of foodfor the world's growing markets, and Peru emerging as one of the major fresh produce powerhouses for the future, a group of forward-thinking investors have launched an ambitious project to develop a sustainable production area in Peru's northwestern region of Lambayeque. The so-called Olmos Irrigation Project plans to divert water from the eastern Andes mountains to the west of Peru, where although water is scarce, the climate is ideal for growing a diverse range of agricultural crops.
