Argentina's leading lemon suppliers are opening up avenues in the Middle East and Asia thanks to combined efforts to improve quality and awareness. Although Argentina has supplied fresh citrus to the Middle East since 1992, the region has not alwaysbeen considered a strategic market. But in the last two years, the nation has been steadily expanding its presence across the Gulf on the back of continued improvements in fruit quality, particularly for lemons. "The reality is that Argentina has focusedits citrus exports on the European Union and Russia, and only to a smaller degree on Canada, Asia and the Middle East," explains Alejandro Moralejo, the commercial manager of San Miguel, which is one of the 12 member companies working under the All Lemon Tested & Certified for Export quality certification scheme.
