摘要

As the country's banana growers continue to get back on their feet following floods, the industry remains confident that the EU import tariff disagreement will be resolved this year. Bananas remain Costa Rica's largest agricultural export item and with an industry based on high productivity, social responsibility and environmental preservation, the Central American nation maintains an extremely competitive position on the global market. Despite its access challenges, the European Union (EU) ranks theleading importer, accounting for 49.9 per cent of exports in 2007/08. With an already solid 19 per cent share of the EU banana market, the country soon hopes to shore up its position in the region with this year's highly anticipated conclusion to the EU banana import tariff dispute.
