Rain and hail damage in previous seasons has prompted cherry producers in the Italian province of Modena to consider installing new automated protective covers in their orchards. A new, automated system which is designed to roll out protective coversin cherry orchards was presented in Vignola, a major centre for stonefruit production in the Italian province of Modena, at the end of June. Backed by the city's authorities, the covers are being trialled by local grower company Quartieri and the presentation was attended by representatives of the Vignola Cherry, Plum and Typical Fruits Consortium, Vignola's municipal councillor for agriculture Mauro Scurani and a number of other interested operators.
