The Dutch and Indian govemnnents have launched a new food safety programme to boost trust levels in the tradeThe Chlormequat residue issue that threw last year's Indian grape exports to the EU into turmoil left relations between key industry and government parties in a somewhat strained state.Although only a small percentage of Indian grape shipments actually breached the EU's default maximum residue level (MRL) governing Chlormequat Chloride (CCC), the whole trade suffered the effects as a stand off ensued between the Indian and EU government agencies over the lack of a bespoke MRL and key retailers refused to accept fruit. Financial losses were put at around 30-40 eur m, with growers, exporters and importers badly affected.
