Three types of agrochemical surveys of the Central Chernozem District soils and the authors' investigations in the Central Chernozem Biosphere Preserve, in the Kursk and Belgorod districts are discussed. The humous status of arable soils is described,;as well as their acidity, phosphate and potassium regimes. A forecast of their changes, caused by present-day farming and soil erosion, is given.
