Examined in the development of the fundamental ideas of V.A. Kovda is the applicability of modern biogeochemical and soil approaches to compiling a global map of the world's ecological regions on a scale of 1:15,000,000 within the framework of the corresponding international project. The results are outlined of the first stage of works related to evaluation of the effectiveness of advanced theoretical postulates for ecological mapping of key natural and anthropogenically modified regions.
