INDONESIA'S annual fruit production has been increasing over the last five years, reaching 11.7m tonnes in 2002, up from 7.2m tonnes in 1998. The main fruits grown in Indonesia include bananas (4.4m tonnes) and mangoes (1.4m tonnes). Together, these two crops account for almost 50 per cent of the country's horticultural production. Indonesia's mango production more than doubled from 600,000 tonnes in 1998 to 1.4m tonnes in 2002. Meanwhile, Mango exports have increased fourfold since 2000 from 430 tonnes to 1,880 tonnes in 2004, with value of US2m dollar. Over half of Indonesia's mango exports were destined to the Middle East while Singapore and Hong Kong are also major destinations.
