In field trials in 1990, 1992 and 1993 at Rutigliano, Italy, sweet sorghum cv. Keller was well watered or subjected to water stress at the leaf or stem growth stage. Sensitivity to water stress was greatest at leaf growth stage, when biomass production was reduced by up to 30% compared with the control, and water use efficiency was 4.8 g/kg.
