摘要

The last decade has seen an exponential increase in the number of research papers devoted to multiple sclerosis and cognitive dysfunction. Thanks to these efforts, it is now known that 40-60% of patients with clinically definite MS experience cognitive problems, predominantly involving speed of information processing, working memory, and executive functioning [1]. These deficits may be apparent early in the disease, discern-able at the clinically isolated syndrome stage, and will in time add significantly to the morbidity associated with MS, adversely affecting a patient's ability to work, socialize, form relationships, pursue recreational activities and attend to basic activities of daily living [2]. For these reasons, it is important to accurately detect cognitive dysfunction so that strategies can be put in place to offset the associated limitations.
