Although we have had quite good weather during the first half of this summer, right up to the end of July I had seen surprisingly few wasps around my apiary. Even so, before I went on holiday I thought I would close down the entrances to my hives to two bee spaces just to be on the safe side.We went to Marlborough College Summer School in Wiltshire, a feature being the doughnuts and coffee in the morning and tea and cakes mid-afternoon. Whilst we were there the wasps became an increasing nuisance as the week wore on and I started to congratulate myself for having the foresight to have protected my bees before I came away.
