The paint and printing ink industry has to deal with an increasing amount of international legislation and regulations, particularly with regard to environmental issues. In order to represent its interests at global level, the paint and printing ink industry founded IPPIC, the International Paint and Printing Ink Council, in 1992 which unites the major trade associations of the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Asia, Australia and Europe. Its priorities are to develop and to improve HSE (health, safety and environmental) managemtn at international level and to adress global issues. In order to strengthen its position, IPPIC will soon be granted' consultative status as a non-govenmental organisation (NGO) with the United Nations' Economic and Social Council', after a long procedure.
