摘要

The glass forming region,density,refractive index,thermal expansion coefficient and glass transformation temperature have been determined for samarium aluminoborate and galloborate glasses.The densities,refractive indices and thermal expansion coefficients of these glasses increase with increasing Sm_2O_3 concentration,while the glass transformation temperature is only slightly affected by changes in Sm_2O_3 concentration.Changes in Ga_2O_3 content alter the density much more than identical changes in Al_2O_3 content.Thermal expansion coefficients are essentially the same for the corresponding aluminoborate and galloborate glasses,with slight decreases in the thermal expansion coefficient with increases in either the Al_2O_3 or Ga_2O_3 concentration.Glass transformation temperatures are exceptionally high for borate glasses,with values approaching 740 deg C for the aluminoborate glasses and 670 deg C for the galloborate glasses.Two absorption bands due to samarium occur in the infrared spectrum of these glasses.The extinction coefficient for the band at 1075 nm due to Sm_2O_3 is 2.94 llmolcm.
