摘要

These are fascinating data that contribute to the growing body of literature suggesting the prevalence of aortic aneurysm disease is decreasing. In the Gloucestershire Aneurysm Screening Programme which started over 20 years ago, the mean aortic diameter in 65 year old men has reduced from 21 mm to 17 mm (over 52,000 men screened). This reduction has been similar across all aortic diameters. The present authors suggest their findings may due to a reduction in smoking and an increase in aneurysm surgery in the over 75s.
