摘要

This study was conducted to determine the diurnal variation of rectal temperature (RT) and respiration rate (RR) in 28 White Fulani and 9 Sokoto Gudali adult zebu cattle. RT and RR were measured at 08:00, 15:00 and 18:00 h. It was shown that the RT of White Fulani cattle was 37.90+or-1.59, 39.06+or-2.38 and 39.02+or- degrees C, while that of Sokoto Gudali cattle was 37.93+or-1.30, 39.86+or-1.32 and 39.06+or-0.12 degrees C at 08:00, 15:00 and 18:00 h, respectively. RR of White Fulani cattle was 20.04+or-6.75, 24.21+or-7.89 and 22.02+or-1.91 breaths/min, and that of Sokoto Gudali cattle was 19.18+or-2.95, 21.57+or-1.78 and 22.78+or-4.32 breaths/min at 08:00, 15:00 and 18:00 h, respectively. Pearson's coefficient of correlation between the RT and RR of White Fulani and Sokoto Gudali were 0.73 and 0.87, respectively. RT and RR showed distinct diurnal variations in both breeds, indicating that ambient temperature changes affect both parameters.
