The Berlin Natural History Museum houses important collections of arachnid and myriapod material. As part of our current efforts to modernise our records in an electronic format, I recently compiled some data on our department's previous loans. The results are quite interesting. Pre-war loan data are somewhat patchy. Material was evidently sent out in the early part of the twentieth century but, unfortunately, detailed records were not always kept. This is also true for the mid 1960s before the arrival of my predecessor Manfred Moritz in 1967. The aim of this article is to summarise statistics concerning the loan history of the arachnid/myriapod collections in the Berlin museum and to discuss this in relation to the general research landscape. It would be interesting to see how our data compare with those of other major collections.
