摘要

Techniques for sampling the spider fauna of sand-dune systems are more limited than in other terrestrial systems. Vacuum sampling with a D-vac or similar device is only effective in closed vegetation and is unsuitable in areas with much bare sand. Themost popular method is the use of pitfall traps, but they also only operate successfully in vegetated areas. Where there is wind-blown mobile sand the traps may become blocked unless situated inside marram tussocks. Such limitations mean that these methods cannot sample the full range of habitat variation on coastal dunes.
