This course was a new initiative for the B.A.S., with the aim of providing an introduction not only to the structure and functioning of spiders but also to their identification. The course was run at Juniper Hall Field Centre near Dorking, Surrey, between the 1st and 6th of June and was designed to appeal to both amateur naturalists and university graduates. It involved lectures, fieldwork and laboratory study, and covered identification, morphology, behaviour, silk and webs, systematics and evolution, habitats and habitat selection, pest management, and conservation.
