摘要

The Tegenaria atrica group of large house spiders comprises three species, T. atrica C. L. Koch, 1843, T. saeva Blackwall, 1844 and T. gigantea Chamberlin & Ivie, 1935. T. atrica is widespread in continental Europe (Maurer, 1992; Van Helsdingen, 2008), and also in Eire. In Britain, T. saeva and T. gigantea are the common large house spiders; T. atrica is normally regarded as a casual import with odd individuals turning up now and again, often associated with post offices, ports and garden centres (e.g. Bristowe, 1939; Merrett, 1980; Smith, 1985). Here we document a thriving population of T. atrica in Britain.
