We read with interest the recent letters regarding the safety of Hem-o-lok clips for management of renal hilum during laparoscopic nephrectomy. We recently experienced a complication using Hem-o-lok clips that we thought may be of interest. During a routine laparoscopic nephrectomy for small left renal tumour, on application of the Hem-o-lok clip to the renal artery, a "crunching" sensation was noted and subsequent massive arterial bleeding required immediate conversion to open nephrectomy.
