摘要

Polymer-based biomaterials have been successfully applied as implant materials in clinics for decades. Based on this comprehensive experience, new biomedi-cal applications are inspired, requiring specific sets of polymer properties and functions, which cannot be fulfilled by the clinically established biomaterials. Furthermore, concepts for the design of novel medical devices often rely on the availability of suitable multifunctional biomaterials [1-3]. In addition to medical implants, other close-by disciplines will benefit from advanced polymer-based biomaterials, for instance modern cell culture techniques [4].
