Markets are entitled to a sigh of relief in response to recent macroeconomic data from China,which suggest that the country‘s prolonged economic slowdown has bottomed out. However,despite the festive season approaching, there is hardly room for unalloyed joy, as other keyemerging economies such as India and Brazil continue to slow. Among developedeconomies, the US economy provides a mixed picture, while Japan is expected to enterrecession in the December quarter of the year. Optimists may, nevertheless, be able todetect some brightish spots amid the general gloom of the euro zone economy.
