In its latest quarterly assessment of the global economy, from January, the IMF lowered its forecasts for world real GDPgrowth by 0.3 percentage points in both 2015 and 2016, to 3.5% and 3.7%, respectively, compared with its Octoberforecast. Global economic activity is, therefore, still seen picking up from an estimated 3.3% in 2014—unchanged from theprevious forecast—but the acceleration is now expected to be more gradual. Encouragingly, the IMF raised its alreadyupbeat forecast for US growth. However, the global growth forecast has been dragged down by downward adjustments tothe IMF’s forecasts for China, Russia, the Eurozone and Japan.
