Dear Editor We report a case of retroperitoneal abscess secondary to extraperitoneal bladder rupture during instrumental (forceps) vaginal delivery.A secundiparous 37-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department with fever, dysuria and abdominal pain, 7 days after vaginal delivery by forceps because of a prolonged second stage of labour. A bladder catheter was placed and removed before forceps use, without inflation of the Foley balloon.Examination showed drainage of purulent material through the episiotomy scar, and blood analysis revealed neutrophilia and normal serum creatinine. A bladder catheter was inserted and purulent urine was drained.
