摘要

The major glycoside component from the New Zealand sea cucumber Stichopus mollis (Stichopodidae, Aspidochirotida), was identified as neothyonidioside (1), a triterpene glycoside, reported earlier from the sea cucumber Neothyonidium magnum (Phyllophoridae, Dendrochirotida). This glycoside is different from the glycosides of Stichopus chloronotus and from all other known glycosides from stichopodids by the presence of a sulfate group in the carbohydrate chain. S. mollis is significantly different from the other representatives of the family by morphological characters. Because of the biochemical and morphological differences it is proposed to classify S. mollis in the new genus Australostichopus Levin.
