Piperidine alkaloids are reported for the first time from Picea omorika (Serbian spruce), Abies balsamea (balsam fir), and Abies concolor (Rocky mountain white fir). The alkaloids of P. omorika and P. sitchensis were similar, but not identical, andvery different from those which have been reported reported from P. breweriana, a species with which they have been taxonomically linked. Alkaloids were not detected in A. procera (noble fir), A. lowiana (Sierra white fir) or A. grandis (grand fir). Thetotal base fraction of A. bifolia yielded a nonbasic monoterpenoid known as Muller's lactone, presumed to be an artifact of the isolation procedure.
