The Haugton Award 2002 was presented to Gerone Cloete for his outstanding thesis entitled "The dimandiferous of the Holgat mining area". Honorary membership certificates were awarded to Robert Hargraves & Christopher Jennings & honours awards were presented to G Brandl, R E Harmer and G Drennan .The jubilee medal for 2002 was awarded to J D Harvey, M J de Wit, J Stankie-wicz & C M Doucoure. The Corstorphine Medal for 2002 was awarded to L Coetzee & the Draper award was bestowed upon N J Beukes. The guest speaker, Professor Gregor Borg of the Institute for Geological Sciences - Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenburg gave a fascinating lecture entitled " Between ivory tower and adventure tours: Global perspectives of economic research."
